Dealing with judgement, criticism and unpleasant interactions

So far in my blog candle-1021137_1280pagan-altar-1034856_1920posts I have written about self compassion, loving kindness, forgiveness, oneness and how all these play a significant role in dealing with criticism, judgement and unpleasant interactions. But until now we have discussed only about that part of our ego which attacks and responds with anger. We have discussed sacred practices like compassion, forgiveness and loving kindness with respect to releasing that part of our ego which is the attacker.

But what about that aspect of the ego which defends? The moment someone judges us or says something mean to us, our ego or the fear mind or the monkey mind immediately gets defensive. We may have noticed this when we feel tensed or there is a tightness in our chest or our breath becomes shallow. This aspect of our mind is really helpful when it comes to understanding if its safe to help a stranger or share official information with someone as it plays a major role in keeping us safe and protected. But when our ego starts getting defensive every time someone judges us or criticises us, it creates misery and suffering by convincing us that we are constantly being attacked.

The moment someone says something negative about you, the fear mind goes like “DANGER, DANGER!” and instantly gets defensive without even realising that what the other person feels or says about you is just a set of thoughts their monkey mind has produced in response to your actions.

Goddess Kuan Yin meditation for self compassion and healing

Sit down comfortably on a chair or cross legged on a mat or your bed. Make sure that you are in a safe and comfortable place where you can relax and will not be disturbed for the next few minutes. All the sounds in the background, the chirping of birds, the sounds of kids playing or the crackling sounds of the fireplace will only take you deeper and deeper.

Take a nice long deep letting go breath, inhaling to the count of four and exhaling to the count of eight. Once again, another long deep letting go breath, inhaling to the count of four and exhaling to the count of eight. Now take such two more deep breaths and feel yourself grounded and relaxed.

Now imagine yourself sitting in a beautiful garden on the soft lush green grass or a soft comfy mat on the grass. Feel the sunshine warming you up and feel its warmth as the sun rays kiss your gentle self.

How to deal with overwhelm during journeys

Journeys especially office tours can be really overwhelming. There is the tiredness of the journey, the lack of comfort we get at home and some amount of homesickness too. Self care while you are on trips and journeys becomes something we often forget and many a times we suffer from severe emotional meltdowns along the way. So today I am going to share with you super quick, super easy and super effective practices for self love and self care while you are out on a vacation or an office tour. So lets get started.

The twenty minute listening practice

This has proved to be one of the most effective and lovable practices for me while I am out on an office tour. And all it takes is twenty minutes. So the very first thing that I do before I even step out of the bed in the morning is listening to an audiobook or podcast. These twenty minutes act as a super healer as what I listen to is positive and inspiring. And listening to it first thing in the morning tunes my subconscious mind to the frequency of love and healing. I follow the same practice before going to sleep as well.

While we sleep, our subconscious mind is really active. So whatever we feed it with just before bedtime is stored and this stored content produces positive thoughts. I wake up in the morning feeling lighter and a lot better.

How to make tough decisions

Feelings are temporary

There is a difference between “I feel I cannot do this” and “I cannot do this.” No matter what your feelings are, they are temporary and wont last forever. Whether its pain or fear or grief or ecstasy, no feeling will last forever. Feelings must never be allowed to direct the course of your choices. What feels good today might feel miserable tomorrow. What feels awful today might feel great tomorrow.

Hope vs Expectation

Hope= The Universe has my back

Expectation= If things dont go my way, I am screwed.

I personally feel that its good to make those choices where we know there is some hope for a better tomorrow. In my life, I ended up making choices which involved quitting jobs, leaving places and holding on to toxic relationships just because I was so afraid of letting go of my expectations. I wasnt disappointed in people or situations, I was disappointed in my own expectations.

Even if things are blurry and not clearly visible, deep within our heart we know where there is hope and scope for a better tomorrow. There is a really great question in the book “The Universe has your back” by Gabrielle Bernstein which says,” If I knew that I were fully supported by the universe, what would I do?”

How to let go of guilt and deal with unpleasant emotions

So today was a really hard day for me. I had a series of emotional meltdowns and this led to a lot of chaos around me. But towards the end of the day I had an aha moment and a deep realisation.

Almost two years ago, I decided to play a prank on one of my batchmates. It was nothing too big but the worst thing which happened was that one of my innocent batchmates got framed for it. She wasnt punished but its really painful to bear any false allegations on yourself. At that time, I didnt realise how deeply I had hurt someone, but today I did.

You know that the law of karma is often misinterpreted as “What goes around, comes around.” Let me make it very clear to you that the law of karma is not the law of venegeance. Its the Law of Humility. We are never punished for our misdeeds, we are always blessed. Why? Because when I suffered for the wrong I had done, I was humbled and felt blessed and releived. So if you are holding any guilt in your heart, let it go. If you are afraid of the outcome you will face, release that fear because there is no such thing as divine punishment. You will not be punished but humbled and blessed.

Guilt is a feeling which disturbs our peace of mind and causes a raging storm of emotional turbulence deep within us. We feel so awful and weird that we cant even describe how we are feeling. Let all that pain go. You will get your desired outcome anyway, so why live with all that stress and fear. The divine intelligence within us knows that we are on a journey to salvation and this journey includes a series of failures and rockbottoms which bring us more in alignment with our inner divinity.

A powerful stretch meditation for SURRENDER

The most common cause of stress is that at a deeper level we are all trying to control the things which we know we have no power over. Yet we not only think but overthink about them and it makes us feel awfully overwhelmed. So today I am going to share with you my stretch meditation to surrender all thats not under your control. This meditation is inspired by the youtube channel blogilates’ stretch videos and a few basic yoga poses. You should be very gentle with yourself. You can push yourself a little but not to your breaking point.

You can do this stretch meditation on the bed or on your yoga mat, whichever is more comfortable for you. I advise you to watch the blogilates stretch videos and first do the stretches along with the video to get into the flow. Once you feel that you know the exercises well, then you can follow the meditation below.

Sit up straight on the bed or your mat making sure that your legs are straight in front of you and you are not sitting cross legged. Now slowly place your right foot over your left thigh, your left leg being straight. Bring both your hands upto your left calf region or your left foot, whichever feels better. As you start feeling the stretch, bring to notice what all are you worried about. Maybe you are worried about your grocery shopping or you are worried about adjusting in a new town or an upcoming job interview. Whatever it is, allow it to come up. Now take a nice deep inhale and on the exhale, release it all. Let it all go. Say out aloud or silently in your mind,” I know that I have no control over this. I am letting it go.” Repeat the same exercise on the other side.

Goddess Yemanya meditation for inner peace and receptivity

Goddess Yemanya is symbolic of immense compassion, fertility and receptivity. She is also the fierce protectress who safeguards her children from all harm and danger. She birthed the seas and oceans into being and just like the vast ocean, her heart is full of love and kindness for her children.

So today I am going to share with you my Goddess Yemanya meditation which will help you own where you are at, receive divine guidance and amplify the power of gratitude.

Now imagine that you are standing at the shore of the vast ocean in the dark midnight. The moon is shining in her full glory. The ocean waters are sparkling in the glowing moonlight. Gentle waves float in and out of the ocean. The water of the tides is reaching upto your naked feet.

A beautiful basket is kept on the shore right next to you. It consists of a few sheets of paper and a pen. You kneel down close to the basket and pick out the sheets of paper. You slowly and very gently lay the first sheet of paper on the soft sand. Taking a deep breath, you pick up the pen and slowly start writing all your troubles you want to share with the Goddess. What is bothering you? What is making you angry? Why do you feel hurt? Are you suffering from a heartbreak? You write it all down on the first sheet of paper. And continue on the next. And you write more on the next sheet. And more, in detail, on the next. Hold nothing back my love. Write it all down.

Meditation to embrace change and transformation with Goddess Aeracura

The Goddess Aeracura helps us to cultivate patience as we go through any transition. A bride may be super frustrated as things may not be going as she planned, a new employee may be having a hard time in adjusting in the new workplace and someone nearing death may be too grief striken to see their blessings. Goddess Aeracura reminds us that just as a tightly closed bud takes time to blossom and open petal by petal, transitions too take their own time. What lies on the other side may be completely unknown to us just as a little bud has no idea as to what her life would be like once she is a full grown flower. But having trust in the process and remembering that there is a higher wisdom governing every transition, we can cultivate a peaceful mindset and be grateful for all the blessings being bestowed upon us.

So here I have a meditation with our beloved Goddess Aeracura to help us with any negative thoughts or feelings that might come up along the way.

Focus your attention on your heart centre, the area in the centre of your chest between your breasts. Focus on how you feel right within. Are there any zones of holding a lot of emotions which have hardened up over the years? Do you feel a sense of tightness or heaviness due to the upcoming transition? Now, as you start noticing these areas, consciously begin to soften and melt. And soften and melt. And soften and melt. And soften and melt. And soften and melt. Keep softening and melting all the hardened zones until you feel lighter and relaxed.

Amplifying and magnifying GRATITUDE

Its not easy to practise gratitude when times are tough. But thats when its needed the most. On normal days, simple gratitude practices like listing down three things we are grateful in our gratitude journal is enough. But on not so good days, we need a much more powerful and stronger gratitude practice. We must amplify and magnify this energy of gratitude so that we can harness this inner strength for healing.

SELF COMPASSION

Today I would like to share with you a practice which is super powerful to build up self compassion. We talk a lot about boundary setting and saying NO when needed. But there is one thing we forget. Every NO we say generates within us feelings of shame, guilt, anger, worry and fear. Whether it is declining a job offer, saying no to a movie date, not paying attention to a chronic complainer, saying no to further studies or marriage to take some time for yourself or saying no to lending someone money.

Just think of the last time you said no to someone or something. How did you feel? Were you afraid that you had hurt someone? Were you worried about the outcome? Were you ashamed? Self compassion includes healing all feelings that come up with saying that no.

UNCONDITIONAL GRATITUDE

Being grateful for your wins and your gains is easy but not enough. Just as we lay a lot of emphasis on loving yourself unconditionally, its also important to be grateful for anything and everything. I know you may not agree with this. When we talk about forgiveness, we do not say or accept someone’s faults as right or justified. We stop holding on to the pain and release the trauma by sending love to all so that we can be free from that unending pain and misery.

The same holds true for gratitude as well. Unconditional gratitude does not mean that you are happy for your losses or that you feel good because of them. NO, it means that you are grateful for the divinity this pain is invoking within you even if you cannot see it at the moment. Its not about being okay and putting on a brave face. Its about believing in love, no matter what. Its about realising that whatever hardships you are facing, whatever pain you are suffering from is a manifestation of the solution for the highest good. Whatever is happening with you, is actually happening for you and for the highest good of all.

“My pain is a solution for the highest good of all.”
