When a new infant is born, her parents do all the work for her. Right from feeding her to cleaning her po*p, they do it all. They dont feel unhappy about it. They do it all proudly. They know that the infant needs care as she is preparing herself for a beautiful journey ahead.
You see when our parents or grandparents are growing old, falling ill time and again, we as their caretakers do not take pride in our work. We either feel sorry for them or we sit and cry because it hurts us so much to see them in that pain.
Some of them go through extreme phases of illness before they die. In these times, we as caretakers have to clean up their sh*t, get them washed up and do almost everything for them. I am here to tell you that there is absolutely no need for you to feel upset about this. They too, like little infants are preparing for a new journey ahead. They too are getting ready to embrace another exciting adventure.
My father once said,” People should not suffer so much in their oldage. There should be a fixed age for all to die. Whats the point of living beyond that and enduring all the pain?” There is a reason far beyond our understanding. What if your old relative lying on the hospital bed suddenly has those moments of awakening which he hadnt had in a lifetime? What if someone in the late stages of his life understands the truths which he had failed to understand ever since?
As I told you earlier, in oldage or in their late stages, they are gearing up for a brand new journey ahead. They are still learning and God wants them to learn.
Being a caretaker, take pride in your work. Be compassionate towards them, but please do not pity them. They are not poor souls fighting a losing battle, they are brave heroes gathering the required knowledge for their journey ahead.
Yes, there will be days when you will be engulfed in massive grief. There will be days when you shall get tired from doing all the work. Thats all right. You have the right to feel that way. Be kind towards yourself. You too are going through a hard time. Weep in the arms of God and surrender it all to him. God knows what he is doing. Trust him and keep going. May God bless you.
