A few years ago, my father and I were having a discussion on nature and environment. Thats when he said,” It takes years for a forest to form. The vegetation grows, the wildlife emerges and an entire home is formed. Once destroyed, its really hard to compensate for the loss. You can plant saplings and try to help, but the forest once destroyed will again take that time and effort to build itself again. Thats a great loss.”
I remember this today in context to dreams. First, a tiny seedling of wishes is planted into the soil of your heart, then it is nourished with hope and faith, blessed with love and so it grows. An entire forest of dreams is created which once destroyed is hard to compensate for.
Dreams are delicate. They need to be handled with care. They have to be protected and watered with love. They must be cared for. I remember that once I was working really hard for a particular examination. I was studying for it and my dream forest was flourishing beautifully. But then, I made a mistake and told the world about it.
Every single day, at least ten people would tell me that I wasnt going to make it. Every moment I was made to feel that it wasnt worth the try. Similarly, when I was thirteen years old, I was working on my book. It was a heartfelt story of a young girl. But my neighbours got to know of it and I was made fun of. My dream forest was destroyed.
Mahatama Gandhi has said,” I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.” So true and so beautiful. Do not let invaders enter your dream forest. Do not let them uproot the saplings of hope and chop off the trees of love. Dont let them hunt down your wild passions and never let them crush your soul under their false judgements.
The destruction of a forest is one of the most tragic events in the life of mother earth. The shattering of a dream is also tragic and heart-breaking. And let me tell you that a dream once destroyed takes away with it a whole part of you. It takes away with it your will to dream again.
My dream forest was destroyed. I have forgiven my invaders. But it took me a lot of pain and radical transformation to dream again. But this time, its not the same. Its not the same exam, its not the same book, those dreams are gone and lost forever. The wind cannot return to the place from where its left. But I am blessed. My will is all that matters. I am willing to build a new dream forest now and protect it from weeds and invaders.
