Okay, so I feel pretty sleepy this morning as I write about this. Discipline is a subject that has been confused with punishment and bondage. But discipline means liberation from all that no longer serves us. It is the gateway to health and wealth. So here I present to you some myths and truths about discipline.
MYTH- Discipline excludes having fun
TRUTH- Discipline is a healthy boundary for something to be done only till its enjoyable
You spend a few minutes engaging in healthy interactions on social media. Its fun and you love it. But checking your post for likes every hour, logging into facebook every twenty minutes, such activities are no longer fun. You have difficulty in letting this go. Thats when discipline steps in to liberate you.
MYTH- Discipline includes following plans and routines
TRUTH- Discipline is all about letting go of your plans
Sticking to routines is not a wrong thing. Having healthy practices is good for your health. But when your plans fail or you are unable to stick to your schedule, you feel guilty and stressed. Thats when discipline reminds you of the power of the present moment and choosing it to act as it is rather than wishing for it to be according to your plan.
MYTH- Discipline means being productive the whole day
TRUTH- All productive people may not be disciplined
We all love spendig our days doing only productive stuff. We all want to create those ideal days and properly planned evenings. But discipline is much more than just being productive. Discipline is not about always doing things the right way. Its about getting back on track no matter how many times you have gone off it. You may be spending your days productively but you are not disciplined if you feel guilty and worried everytime you skip being that way.
MYTH- Discipline is a thing to be learnt
TRUTH- Discipline is a trait of the soul to return to
As the famous author Rebecca Campbell says,” Your soul is always calling” and I say that that calling is discipline. Discipline is not a set of rules to be learnt or taught. It is a way of life lived by answering your soul’s calling.
